REVIEW: Chosen Family | Chaos, Boundaries & Heather Graham | Plaion Pictures Film

Group of four people taking a selfie outdoors, smiling widely. Two hold signs; one reads “ANN FITZGERALD YOGA.” Background is greenery.
"Light, likable, and sincere."

Heather Graham wears multiple hats - writer, director, and star - in Chosen Family, a breezy yet heartfelt rom-com about one woman’s chaotic journey to find peace in a world that won’t stop shouting at her.

Two women engaged in a tense confrontation in a garden setting, surrounded by floral decorations. One wears a red outfit, the other a black jacket.

Graham plays Ann, a yoga teacher who talks the talk of balance and mindfulness, but her real life is anything but zen. Between her wildly dysfunctional family, a string of dead-end dates, and a chronic inability to say “no,” she’s the go-to problem-solver for everyone except herself. Sound familiar?

Graham’s performance is warm, witty, and painfully relatable as Ann struggles to set boundaries, speak up for what she wants, and figure out who she is when she stops living for everyone else. There’s a real emotional honesty here, especially for anyone who’s ever felt stretched thin by the demands of family, friends, and society.

A family snuggles on a cozy couch; a man holds a pink teddy bear, a woman embraces a child reading a book. Warm, peaceful atmosphere.

With a laid-back indie feel, the film is light with sparks of comedy and just enough edge to keep things grounded. Some moments could’ve gone deeper, and the plot occasionally drifts, but the overall message lands: sometimes your real tribe is the one you choose, not the one you're stuck with.

Chosen Family is light, likable, and sincere. It's a film for overthinkers, people-pleasers, and anyone learning to protect their peace, one awkward conversation at a time.
