REVIEW: The Drowned | Movie 2025

"murky, meandering, and more miss than hit."
On paper, The Drowned had me hooked: thieves on the run, a missing accomplice, and whispers of something supernatural lurking beneath the waves. In practice? It never quite comes together.
The sea-side setting is atmospheric and there are moments where the tension feels real - shadows under the water, strange noises, paranoia between the crew. But it drags. The middle section is weighed down with sluggish pacing and clunky dialogue, and the acting never fully sells the stakes. The mythology teases at something deeper but refuses to commit, leaving the scares feeling half-formed.
Verdict: Plenty of potential drowned by uneven execution. Creepy in flashes, but ultimately forgettable.
