"unsettling, stylish, but not flawless."
Set in 1970s Florida and inspired by true events, The Man in the White Van is a chilling blend of true-crime thriller and coming-of-age horror. It follows Annie, a teenager who becomes the target of a creepy stranger after a string of local disappearances.
The film really nails its atmosphere - retro styling, eerie tension, and that gnawing sense of danger that builds from the very first scene. Madison Wolfe is fantastic as Annie, making her more than just a typical “final girl,” and Sean Astin delivers a surprisingly unsettling turn that stays with you.
Where it stumbles is pacing. The middle act drags, and a few scares feel more predictable than they should. Still, when it hits, it hits - the final act ramps up the dread in a way that makes you squirm.
Verdict: Uneven but effective. A creepy slow-burn thriller with enough bite to keep you hooked, even when it leans on genre tropes.
