"messy, bold, and weirdly entertaining".
Every so often a film comes along that makes you sit back and go: “Wait… did I just watch a stalker thriller, a dark comedy, or an art-house fever dream?” Borderline is absolutely one of those.
Ray Nicholson is the real scene-stealer here as Paul, a fan whose obsession tips over into full-blown delusion. He’s equal parts terrifying and hilarious — the kind of character that makes you laugh one second and question your safety the next. Samara Weaving, as pop star Sofia, does what she can with the material, but I couldn’t help but wish the script gave her more to play with. She deserved more than just being the object of obsession.

The film itself? It’s chaotic. One minute you’re in stalker-horror territory, the next you’re watching what feels like a surreal comedy sketch. Sometimes that works — especially when the visual style leans into its wild side — but other times it feels like the film can’t quite decide what it wants to be when it grows up.
Pacing-wise, it drags in places, especially early on. But once it hits its unhinged stride, there’s definitely fun to be had if you’re into films that throw the rulebook out the window and set fire to it for good measure.
Bottom Line
Borderline is messy, bold, and weirdly entertaining. It won’t be for everyone, but if you enjoy films that dance on the edge of chaos, this one’s worth pressing play.
⭐⭐⭐
BORDERLINE will be available on Digital Platforms from 8th September.
